There isn't really a straightforward answer to this. It will depend on a number of factors, for example, will the loss of parking detract more from the value that the extra habitable room will add? Perhaps the properties existing accommodation is sufficient and so adding an extra room is not necessary. However, in many cases, creating an extra bedroom on the ground floor or a family room or home office would be attractive.
