House prices rise for the first time in eight months

 

After several months of decline, UK house prices have started to bounce-back with the Nationwide House Price Index reporting a rise in the month of April.

If inflation falls sharply in the second half of the year, as most analysts and the Bank of England expect, this would further boost confidence, especially if job market conditions remain strong. 

In addition, the number of mortgages approved in the UK for people buying a home rose sharply at the start of spring, Bank of England figures show, rising 18% between February and March.
