20 year old Jess Mullins, who was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer earlier this year, is looking to raise money for Cancer Research UK in order to help other young people in a similar situation to her.
Back in January, Jess was admitted to the hospital, and after numerous scans, was given the sad news that she had Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, an uncommon form of cancer that develops in the lymphatic system - a network of vessels and glands which are spread throughout the body.
With the help of friends and family, she has raised over £10,000 for Cancer Research UK! Posting on her JustGiving page, she said: “The hospital, doctors, and nurses have been amazing, and with all the love and support of my family and friends, I will fight through this. Everyone has been so generous. My dad works at Langford Russell, and the staff there, many of whom are complete strangers to me, have donated over £2000 combined”.
Jess has now had three rounds of chemotherapy, with five more to go, and then radiotherapy to finish her course of treatment. The doctors have told Jess that the chemotherapy is working, and so she remains positive as ever.
In anticipation of the hair loss, Jess had her hair cut into a short bob, which she has donated to the Little Princess Trust – a charity which make wigs for children who lose their hair as a result of treatment. Find out more about how they use the hair here http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/.
