Catford is located in the Borough of Lewisham and is bordered by Hither Green, Lewisham, Bromley, Forest Hill, and Sydenham. Catford is widely seen to be up and coming, with £300 Million being invested into the area, the Bakerloo line being discussed regarding extending it through Catford, and a new road system being signed off.

  • The first significant planned housing development was the luxury estate called Ravensbourne Park, which began in the 1820s.
  • Catford was the ford (across the River Ravensbourne) where cattle would cross
  • It is said that the name Catford originates from many black cats being thrown into the River Ravensbourne during the witch hunts
  • The Excalibur Estate in Catford is a prefab estate built after WW2 and was one of the largest in Britain. It is now planned for most of them to be demolished despite opposition from locals.
