Borough of Bromley

Chislehurst is in the London Borough of Bromley in South East London. It is bordered by Bromley and Sidcup. It is a popular area and attracts people due to the excellent schools, both Primary and Secondary, and convenient transport links into the centre of London.

 

Did you know?
  • Chislehurst gets its name from the old Saxon words ‘cisel’ which means gravel and ‘hyrst’ which means a wooded hill.
  • Chislehurst cave has very ancient origins and an extremely interesting history. It was used as a bomb shelter during WW2 and was used so much that there was a chapel built in there. A child was also born in the caves during one air raid and was called ‘Cavena’.
  • Napoleon III, Emperor of France, died in exile in Chislehurst in 1850.

Chislehurst Caves – These caves are a popular tourist attraction, in addition to being used as a bomb shelter in WW2, it has also held many concerts by David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Jimi Hendrix, Status Quo and The Rolling Stones.

Chislehurst & Sundridge Park golf clubs – Popular championship golf clubs in the area with picturesque grounds and great clubhouses

Walden Recreation Ground – An exciting area for children and adults, hosting 37 acres of playground, open space and woodlands

The high street has a range of high street and independent shops. The Royal Parade, the main shopping street in Chislehurst with a village feel, also has many shops and restaurants in picturesque buildings with parking outside. There is a Sainsbury's, a mix of independent and mainstream coffee shops.
